"THE CHOICE IS YOURS" SHOW FEATURING
THE LIFESTYLE JOURNEY AMBASSADORS
CHOOSE HEALTH
The Choice Is Yours show, performed by the Lifestyle Journey Ambassadors - Alora Heinrichs and Andreas Iwanegbe – is a high-energy, multi-media live performance with a game-show atmosphere that not only entertains but educates young people about the importance of making healthy nutrition and lifestyle choices. Each student has the ability to build a foundation for their present and future well-being by making healthy choices covering four “cornerstones”:
Making healthy eating choices
Being physically active
Avoiding smoking and substance abuse
Developing a positive attitude and outlook on life
“It made me laugh, kept me interested and
influenced my decision-making about unhealthy choices”
– Student, St. Joseph’s Collegiate, Brooks, AB

“The Choice Is Yours” show uses dance, hip hop, rap music and game shows with tons of audience participation to communicate three main messages:
To get students to stop & think about their health and how the choices they make can impact their futures, both now and as they grow into adulthood.
To raise students’ awareness level in regards to their health and well-being, as well as to show them many of the negative effects of a ‘fast-food lifestyle.’
To show students that they make many choices every day that can have both a short and long-term impact on this health and well-being. And, that many times, young people make these choices without ever realizing their importance.
From the opening dance number, students will be engaged and have fun while they learn!

“It was pretty cool – mixing
dance and rap with educational facts are a good combination"
- Student, Holy family Academy, Brooks, AB
“By changing your choices, you can change your Destiny”
- from The Choice Is Yours show
After learning about lifestyle risk factors and how their choices can increase or decrease their risk of chronic disease, students are recruited from the audience to play two games on “The Choice Is Yours” show. Both games are played in the style of the ever-popular TV game show “The Price Is Right.” Contestants are asked a question and the person closest to the right answer, without going over, then plays on stage for a bigger, better prize.
In the first game – the SUGAR game – students learn about the quantity of sugar in common beverages such as pop, fruit drinks, slurpees, iced tea and others.
FACT – The average teenaged boy drinks the equivalent of 2 cans of pop a day.
(Girls drink an average of 1/1/3 cans a day.)
How much sugar would he consume in an entire year?
For a humorous, but eye-opening look, watch this fun video of Alora & Andreas
But is consuming this much sugar a good idea? What kind of effect does this have on our health and well-being?
Watch the video from the show as Alora and Andreas tell us in their own creative way!
In the second game show, also played in the style of “The Price Is Right,” students learn about different types of fats and how much fat is in various snack foods and fast food choices. Once again contestants are selected from the audience and one ‘winner’ goes on to keep playing on “The Choice Is Yours.”
FACT: The average North American eats fast food 3-4 times per week, which can translate to consuming as much as 7-11 pounds of unhealthy, artery-clogging saturated fat per year.
But what does 11 lbs. of fat look like?
Get a glimpse in this short video:
After this game, students hear another fun rap song about the negative effects of consuming too much unhealthy fat and then watch an eye-opening video from about what can happen to you if you don’t make healthy choices.
“It made people think about what they eat."
- Student
The message of The Choice Is Yours show is NOT “don’t eat fast food” or “don’t drink pop or other sugary drinks” – but rather that these kinds of choices are "sometimes" foods that should only be consumed occasionally. We need to make healthy choices that are RIGHT for us!
“It made me think about every choice I have made since I watched the show”
- Student
“It wasn't a typical presentation on how to live
your life…they gave you the choice.”
- Student
By the end of The Choice Is Yours show, students are thinking about the impact of their choices on their health and well-being
“Life is short, don’t waste it; Life is short, appreciate it!” - John Reuben, from the song ‘Life is Short’
